Coach Jerry Johnson Receives
Certification
Jerry Johnson attended the International Fastpitch Pitching Association
clinic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The clinic was held on the campus of
the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball facility.
The mission of this group is first and foremost to define the mechanics
of the fastpitch pitching motion such as to ensure efficient body
movements that minimize the potential for injury. Secondly it is to
teach these efficient movements to those who instruct in the art of
pitching. And thirdly it is to promote "Best Practices" relative to the
development of pitchers starting with beginners and progressing through
the elite level.
The clinic had a powerful line up of pitching coaches to support the
mission. In addition to Ernie Parker; Rick Pauly- Head coach at
Spartanburg Methodist College, Pat Moyer- currently coaches the Fury 18
Gold team in Chattanooga, Vann Stuedeman-pitching coach at the
University of Alabama, Marty McDaniel- pitching coach at the University
of Tennessee, Sarah Pauly- National Pro Fastpitch 2006 most valuable
pitcher, Lacey Swarthout- pitching coach at the University of Tennessee
Chattanooga, Michelle Depolo- pitching coach at the US Military Academy
at West Point, Matt Green- strength coach at the University of Tennessee
Chattanooga, Marc Dagenais who hosts the popular performance enhancement
website
www.softballperformance.com presented and demonstrated the
"Best Practices" in pitching instruction.

Parent Involvement by Coach
Jerry Johnson
Many parents live their dreams through
their kids, and, in this instance, their daughters. I
have one rule for moms and dads when they bring their
daughter to me for the first pitching lesson - I inform
them in a polite, tactful manner that their daughter for
the next 30 -120 minutes belongs to me.
The parents are allowed, and
encouraged, to stay in the pitching room to observe and
can ask any questions they may have when the session is
complete. The parents must have total confidence in what
I am trying to accomplish with their daughter.

New Pitching Instructional
Video Production Launched
Coach Johnson announced in January of
2007 that he will be creating a new pitching
instructional video. The new instructional video
entitled "For The Younger Pitcher" will cater to the
younger pitcher. The video will highlight pitchers as
young as 10 years of age.
WVVA-TV NBC6 News (Bluefield, WV) Weekend Sports
Anchor, Jordan Conigliaro, reported on site at
Independence High School (Beckley, WV). Jordan
interviewed Coach Johnson, the pitchers, and production
staff in regards to the video production launch of the
new pitching instructional video "For The Younger
Pitcher" on June 27, 2007.
"The key is throwing the perfect pitch and Jerry knows
how to teach it."
"The unique thing about Jerry's DVD is it has a 13 and
10 year old throwing the pitches. As softball DVD's go,
they usually feature older players." Jordan Conigliaro

Todd Stanford's High School
Softball Column
You can hear the joy in Jerry Johnson's
voice when he talks about a protege using his triple
pitch in NAIA games.
If Johnson has his druthers, it won't be
much longer until you see players in the NCAA Division I
and even international play using the triple pitch.
Johnson, a former assistant coach at
Mountain State University (W.Va.), developed a new
softball pitch early last year. He calls it the triple
pitch because it's a combination of a changeup, drop and
curve. It has an 11-to-5 o'clock spin going to the
catcher, which Johnson compares to Randy Johnson's "slurve"
pitch.
"The speed is somewhere between a
fastball and a changeup, and it's got a very slight
curve with a very slight drop at the end," Johnson says.
"It's an offspeed finesse pitch."
